About AI Receptionist Report

AI Receptionist Report is an independent guide to AI receptionists and answering services for home-service contractors. It is run by Aaron Husak, an operator who does marketing and lead generation for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing businesses. The site exists because the category is new and most of what contractors find online is vendor marketing dressed up as advice. We earn money through referrals when a contractor we match hires a provider, and we disclose that on every relevant page.

Short version: I run marketing for contractors, I watched AI receptionists go from a novelty to a real tool, and I got tired of the garbage content that shows up when a contractor searches for one. So I built this.

Who runs this

My name is Aaron Husak. I run a small marketing practice that does lead generation for home-service businesses. Google Ads, Local Services Ads, SEO, the whole top of the funnel. My job is to make the phone ring for contractors and to make sure the money they spend to make it ring does not leak out the bottom.

That last part is how I ended up here. You can run a clean ad account, rank the site, buy the LSA leads, and still lose a big chunk of it because nobody answers the phone. In the trades the person who would answer is usually under a house, on a roof, or driving between jobs. A one-person or lean crew cannot do billable work and staff a phone at the same time. That is not a discipline problem you fix with a script. It is a physical constraint. AI answering removes the tradeoff by picking up every call while the crew keeps working, so I started paying close attention to which of these tools actually hold up.

I test and position these products for real contractors with real ad budgets, not as a hobbyist reviewing software. That is the perspective this site is written from.

Why this site exists

The AI-receptionist category is growing fast and it is genuinely confusing to shop for. Search "ai receptionist" and you get a wall of pages that are either the vendors selling themselves or affiliate sites ranking whoever pays the most. Prices are quoted three different ways (flat monthly, per call, per minute) so nothing compares cleanly. Half the "statistics" you see (missed calls cost you X, Y percent of callers never leave a voicemail) trace back to answering-service blogs with no real source behind them.

A contractor trying to make a $100 to $300 a month decision should not have to wade through that. This site is my attempt to lay it out straight: what the models cost, where each provider actually fits, and what matters for a trade specifically (bilingual coverage, after-hours emergencies, and whether the tool books into the CRM you already use).

What we care about

Does it answer every call, capture the lead, and book the job. Does it work after hours and in Spanish. Does it plug into the scheduling system a contractor already runs on. That is the whole test.

Our independence

This is a guide, not an ad. That means other providers win where they deserve to win. If a provider is the lowest-cost credible entry point, we say so. If a tool is built for auto dealerships and not the trades, we say that too and steer you elsewhere. We do not run Review or star-rating schema because we do not have a formal rating dataset, and we are not going to fake one.

We recommend Cactus specifically for the trades because it earns that pick on merit: it is built for home-service contractors, it answers 24/7 in English and Spanish, it books the job, it integrates with Housecall Pro and Jobber, and it backs the work with a guarantee. That is a real fit for a real use case, not a paid placement dressed up as a verdict. When another provider fits your situation better, we point you there.

What you can expect from us

  • Prices attributed to a source and a date, with a note to confirm current pricing
  • Plain qualitative language where we do not have a hard number, instead of a made-up one
  • Honest fit calls, including "this one is not for you"
  • Advertising disclosure on every page where money could color the recommendation

What we will not do

  • Parrot vendor statistics we cannot verify
  • Claim an integration a provider does not actually have
  • Rank a provider higher because they pay more
  • Pretend to have ratings or test data we do not have

How we make money

The site is referral-supported. When you use our get-matched form and we connect you with a provider that fits your trade, we may earn a referral fee if you hire them. That is the business model, and it is disclosed in the body of every comparison, best, and cost page with a link to our full disclosure.

Here is the part that keeps it honest: a referral is only worth anything if the match actually works out for the contractor. If I send you to a tool that does not fit and you cancel in a month, I have burned your trust and made nothing durable. So the incentive lines up with giving you a straight answer. You can read exactly how the money works on the advertising disclosure page, and how we form our picks on how we review.

Who this is for

Home-service contractors: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and the trades around them. Solo operators deciding whether an AI receptionist is worth it, and lean shops trying to stop losing after-hours emergency calls to the next company on the list. If you spend money to make the phone ring, or you are about to, this site is built for you.

If you run a law firm or a dental office, some of this still applies, but the picks and priorities here are tuned for the trades. That is the whole point of building it narrow.

The one-line version

Independent, operator-run, and honest about the money

I do lead gen for contractors for a living. This guide is the shopping resource I wanted to hand my own clients: fair, specific, and clear about how it pays for itself. Providers earn their spots on fit, not on fees.
